Sunrise for the Sleepers investigates our relationship with the sun through sound and light. The entire Sun vibrates with a complex pattern of acoustic waves, much like a bell. If observed closely, a bell's surface jiggles with intricate patterns as waves bounce within it.
The sound composition, performed with a Stockhausen tam-tam and played by robots, incorporates the frequencies of both light and sound. As an artificial sun orbits behind the tam-tam, a 300-degree hot lamp shifts the tam-tam's tonality, creating a dynamic auditory experience.
Acket reflects, “It fascinates me how many things in the world are interconnected through frequencies — like the frequencies of light, and the sound that they create. In this installation, and in a broader sense on this floor, I wanted to create a beautiful collision of these light and sound frequencies.
